"If you think something is missing in your life, it is probably more of the real you" Dr Robert Holden, Higher Purpose
A recent article in Psychology Today identified that connecting with our values offers the opportunity to boost our wellbeing. What is important to you? What do you devote your time, money and attention to? Are you consciously aware of your personal values?
This is something I have been reflecting on recently as I seek to manage the impact of a medical diagnosis with the needs of my business and those I serve. I have taken a step back and revisited the values which underpinned the creation of Chrysalis in 2017 to see whether they still apply, and also whether other values have emerged in the time I have spent in co-presence with my clients’ and students’ journeys of healing and transformation.
I am hugely grateful to have a toolbox of spiritual practices and healing modalities which offer me the opportunity to live both consciously and purposefully. When I focus on the present moment and observe how my thoughts guide my actions (and sometimes reactions) I can get curious about the values which underpin them.
To quote Mahatma Gandhi “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.”
If we can consciously name our values we allow them to guide us through life. They may change over time and with experience as we come into right relationship with our true essence and soul purpose.
Dr Bach spoke of the inter-connectedness of mind, body, and soul and concluded that disharmony in our being e.g. ill-health, is a sign that our personality is out of alignment with our soul’s intention. The remedies are a wonderful tool in developing our self-awareness and gaining a deep understanding of our own emotions, values, strengths and weaknesses.
Core values for me include gratitude, truth, integrity, empathy, curiosity, presence, kindness and service. They imbue my decisions and choices with meaning and direction and most importantly they are a constant reminder of what I care about most.
In A Course in Miracles we learn to “not value what is valueless” but to seek the truth in all our worldly interactions, whilst recognising the presence of love that sits at the core of each one of us.
Being alongside others whilst witnessing their pain and confusion gives me courage to continue to serve and grow spiritually. It has been an honour to serve the greater good through healing and teaching at this pivotal moment in human consciousness and I am committed to ensuring my capacity to serve is soul inspired.
When we take time to pause and to be still in meditation or contemplative prayer we can consider how our values have guided our lives and affected our behaviour and choices. What makes life meaningful? What inspires me? Ask yourself what values most shape your daily interactions. Get curious about what your inner being is seeking to bring to your conscious awareness. There is no judgement here, just a willingness to understand your soul’s intention.
In Japan, the concept “Ikigai” encourages people to discover what truly matters to them and to live life filled with purpose and joy.
Analysis of our values is a powerful tool in developing self-awareness. As a result we make better decisions, fostering self-growth and ultimately leading to a more authentic and satisfying life. Creating a business that reflects my core beliefs and is in alignment with my core values brings forth clients and students who are soul-aligned too.
