"Your sacred space is where you find yourself again and again" Joseph Campbell
As the wheel of the year turns from spring towards summer we celebrate Beltane, a time of peak energy to manifest and create.
All around us are signs of fertility, new life and potential. How might we harness the energy of abundance and light.?
Sacred space (our sanctuary or heart space) is a unique and intentional space that we create in our home, or in our inner world, and which helps facilitate our daily spiritual practice of connection.
When we are in this space we are open to deeper levels of our being.
Honouring the seasonal cycle brings us into harmony with the potential for growth and abundance that is reflected within and without.
Sacred space represents our innermost self and, as Joseph Campbell also says “This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation. At first you might find that nothing happens there. But if you have a sacred place and use it, something eventually will happen”.
Sacred space can be a place of meditation and contemplation. You might like to reflect on this season of light and abundance and journal how it relates to your spiritual practice.
Allow this inquiry to connect you to your inner wisdom and ask for guidance where necessary to strengthen your spiritual practice.
Each time you return to this space you build connection. Your nervous system is soothed as your subconscious recognises this space as a place of sanctuary and relief
Trust your intuition to determine what to include in your sacred space and how to arrange it. You might like to choose objects to represent the elements.
For example, the Earth element may be represented by some flowers or foliage. For the Air element you could add feathers, a singing bowl or some chimes. Dedicate and light a candle to represent Fire and add a bowl of spring water to represent Water.
I normally add a crystal that is meaningful to me, incense or essential oils, some angel cards or oracle cards. To align with the energies of Beltane you could add some colourful ribbons and arrange your objects on a gold or yellow cloth.
Experiment with what works for you and refresh your space regularly to keep it energetically clean.
All that we do to nurture our spiritual wellbeing helps us to expand outwards, towards others. Spending time in safe, sacred space brings focus and creates a rhythm in our day-to-day life. When we repeat a practice mindfully, we invest it with energy and significance.
